On Saturday, March 1 the St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Mathletes placed 1st in the annual St. Agnes Math Competition. This marks the third consecutive year that SVdP has won the title at this event. This year’s competition saw a total of 18 area Catholic schools participate. SVdP 8th grade mathlete Lauren C., who also participated in the competition last year, stated: “Winning the St. Agnes competition for the second year in a row, and third straight year for SVdP, is a great accomplishment and I’m happy I did it with my friends and for my school.” The SVdP Math Team is sponsored by middle school math/science teacher, Mrs. Tammy Ducote, and comprised of both seventh and eighth graders. Nicolas B. is another 8th grader who participated on the team both last year and this year. In reaction to the win, Nicolas claimed: “Our hard work paid off again and we were able to come back with our third ‘W.’” Members of the 2013-2014 SVdP Math Team are seventh graders: Sean D., Everett E., Liam G., Michael H., Taylor M., and Matthew W.; and eighth graders who were also members of the team last year: Nicolas B., Lauren C., Elizabeth C., Phillip M., Cole R., joined by new comer Thomas S. Teacher/Sponsor Tammy Ducote summed up the 1st place finish: “I continue to be amazed and so proud of how well our students perform at this competition. They work hard and deserve it!”
